  The American Board of Liposuction Surgery certification exam offered by the American Board of Liposuction Surgery  allows successful candidates to present themselves to the public as qualified medical specialists in liposuction surgery. Successfully completing the exam and other requirements indicates mastery of liposuction skills and knowledge, as well as a professional commitment to adhere to the American Board of Liposuction Surgery Code of Ethics.

  • Graduation from an accredited medical school.
  • completion of an application.
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation in English from physicians testifying to your character and your experience in performing liposuction. The letters need to be emailed directly to our office by the recommending physician and include the senders full name, and contact information
  • Passing (>80% correct) a certifying exam conducted by American Board of Liposuction Surgery.
  • Surgery case log of 75 liposuction cases performed.
  • $2,500 application fee.
  • Copy of current medical license
  • Adherence to high standards of ethics and professionalism as suggested by  the American Board of Liposuction Surgery Code of Ethics

  • A minimum of fifty (50) hours of continuing medical education per year.
  • Surgical log of no less than 30 liposuction areas  per year.
  • $299 membership fee per year.

As a Diplomate of the American Board of Liposuction Surgery, I swear to:

  • Maintain the highest standard of personal and professional conduct
  • Encourage and promote the highest level of medical ethics in the practice of liposuction surgery
  • Maintain loyalty to the standards and objectives of the American Board of Liposuction Surgery
  • Uphold the laws and regulations relating to the practice of liposuction surgery
  • Strive for excellence in all aspects of liposuction surgery
  • Apply legal and ethical standards in providing care to my patients
  • Be impartial in providing patient care. I swear not to offer special treatment based on a patient’s race, color, creed, sex, age, sexual orientation, national origin or any handicap
  • Accept no personal compensation from any third party that would influence or require special consideration in the provision of care to any patient
  • Secure the confidentiality of privileged health information 
  • Educate the public on liposuction surgery
  • Use the most ethical means in marketing my practice

Written Examination Dates and Fees

The American Board of Liposuction Surgery uses computer-based testing administration for all written examinations. Our Dermatology exams are offered at a network of testing centers throughout the U.S.A.,  Canada, Europe and the Middle East. 


Registration Forms & Payment
Postmarked By: Exam Fee: 2021:$1,900


The retake fee for initial certification written exams is $1,500.

Payment Methods

If paying by check or money order, please make payable to American Board of Liposuction Surgery.  If paying by credit card, American Board of Liposuction Surgery accepts American Express, MasterCard, Visa, and Discover.


Certification Management  Fee (CMF)

Once certified, all American Board of Liposuction Surgery Diplomates are required to remit a Certification Management Fee (CMF) beginning with the first annual billing cycle after certifying. The 2020 CMF for Dermatology diplomates is $299.

Scope of Certification by The American Board of Liposuction

 

 

Acceptance requirements and examination for the board have been developed based on a systematic review of the current state of knowledge in the field of liposuction surgery, as reflected in medical literature and the patient-care setting. Members of the boards of certification have developed a certification process that assesses, meets the level of knowledge and expertise in liposuction surgery, with a specific goal of improving patient care. The boards of certification constantly monitor advancements in the field of liposuction surgery and make revisions in the certification examination.
